Some valleys make you breathe differently after the very first morning. The Rauris Valley is one of them. The air is crisp, the pace is calm, and the Hohe Tauern National Park begins practically on our doorstep. This is where you'll find the Rauriserhof, our 4-star superior hiking hotel in the heart of Austria's Salzburg region – your home base for a summer holiday in Rauris that stays with you long after you leave.
We've been rooted in this valley for many years. We know the trails that are at their most beautiful this time of year, the mountain huts where the cheese is still made by hand, and the quiet spots where you can have the view all to yourself for a while. We share that knowledge with our guests every single day.
Why a Summer Holiday in the Rauris Valley Does You Good
The Rauris Valley is considered one of the most unspoilt valleys in the Hohe Tauern National Park – and you can feel it. A summer holiday in Rauris means plenty of space, genuine alpine farming culture, and all the comfort that relaxing days deserve.
From our hotel you can reach an unusual wealth of highlights – from family outings and summit successes to living history. Here are our favourites for your days out:
1. Rauris Hochalm Cable Car & Hochalm Adventure Mountain
Glide comfortably to the top and take in the sweeping panoramic view. Up there you'll find the birds of prey centre with its impressive flight demonstrations, the Heimalm Gold & Mineral World, Tilly's Forest Trail and several water playgrounds. A day out that delights children and adults alike.
2. The Rauris Primeval Forest (Rauriser Urwald)
An atmospheric nature trail winding through centuries-old Swiss stone pines, moss-covered rocks and still moorland pools. Shady, cool and full of mystery – a wonderful destination for the whole family, especially on hot summer days.
3. Kolm Saigurn & the Valley Head at the Sonnblick
At the foot of the Hoher Sonnblick (3,106 m) and the Schareck, the history of gold mining comes to life. Past the striking waterfall trail, rustic huts such as the Ammererhof or the Naturfreundehaus invite you in for a hearty snack – the perfect reward after a hike.
4. The Historic Seidlwinkl Valley – Valley of the Packhorse Traders
A flat, pram-friendly valley path following the routes of old traders. Our tip: the included National Park taxi comfortably carries you part of the way, and at the head of the valley the more than 500-year-old Rauris Tauernhaus awaits you.
5. Gold Panning in Rauris
Try your luck at the official gold-panning sites – for example at the Bodenhaus or on the Heimalm. When the first real fleck of gold glints in your sieve, children's eyes light up (and so do the grown-ups').
6. The Kitzlochklamm Gorge – a Nearby Day-Trip Tip
One of Salzburg's most spectacular gorges, with roaring water, secure walkways and tunnels cut through the rock. A natural spectacle that stays with you for a long time.
As a hiking hotel with real passion, we know what makes a mountain summer complete. Much of it is already included with your stay:

You can taste a summer holiday in the Rauris Valley, too. Our three-quarter board accompanies you through the day – from a generous breakfast buffet and an afternoon snack to a multi-course dinner.
