Some hotels have a history. The Rauriserhof has a family history – and that makes all the difference. For over 70 years, the Rießlegger Mayr family has been welcoming guests to Rauris, today already in its third generation. What began in 1954 with just a few rented rooms has evolved into a 4-star superior hotel with 50 team members who bring the property to life every single day.
🏠 A Family Business – Three Generations, One Roof
It all began with Katharina and Jakob. The two married in 1948 – Katharina was the daughter of the innkeeper at the Andrelwirt in Wörth, while Jakob ran a transport company. When the first guests arrived in 1954 due to the construction of the reservoir dam in Rauris, Katharina made a decision: she wanted to become an innkeeper. This wish became the foundation for everything that followed.
In 1956, they received their first license to operate as a bed and breakfast during the summer months. In 1957, the transport company's garages were converted into a café – hosting dance nights with live music twice a week. In 1961, rooms with private showers and toilets followed (a true highlight at the time) along with the legendary grilled chicken station. In 1965, the municipality of Rauris officially approved the name Rauriserhof.
In 1969, the very first indoor swimming pool in the entire Pinzgau region was built – a clear sign that this was a place that never stood still.
🏔️ The Second Generation: Ferdinand & Hildegard
In 1971, Hildegard Rießlegger and Ferdinand Mayr married and took over the family business. A new wing with 40 rooms was constructed, and the Rauriserhof officially became a hotel. In the years that followed, the property grew continuously: new rooms, a bowling alley, the purchase of the neighboring Wieshof guesthouse in 1977, and the construction of the indoor and outdoor tennis courts in the autumn of the same year.
In 1980, the original main building was demolished, and the new restaurant opened just in time for Christmas – followed by the very first "kitchen party" on New Year's Eve. In 1981, new rooms were added to the south wing, and the Jakobsbrunnen (Jakob's Fountain) was inaugurated to celebrate Jakob's 70th birthday.
Further renovations and expansions followed over the coming years: the redesign of the hotel lobby in 1992, the remodeling of the indoor pool and the Vital-Oase wellness area in 2000, and the redesign of the south wing rooms in 2003.
The anniversary was celebrated in style. At the same time, the north wing was redesigned and expanded: all rooms facing the Kreuzboden were enlarged into hotel studios, and all others were completely refitted. Starting in the winter of 2004/2005, guests could enjoy fully renovated rooms throughout the entire hotel.
✨ The Third Generation: Sandra & Martin
In October 2006, Sandra and Martin married – and with them, the third generation took the helm. What followed was one of the most active construction phases in the hotel's history.
In 2007, a dedicated staff house on Gaisbachstraße was purchased and renovated. In 2011, the restaurant and kitchen were completely transformed – marking the birth of the new Rauriserhof Genusswelt (Culinary World). In 2014, the hotel celebrated its 60th anniversary, and tennis made a major comeback: the indoor tennis hall was fully renovated and equipped with the new Domo Advantage surface. At the same time, the bar was given a fresh, glamorous new look.
A major wellness expansion followed in 2015: the new BergSpa, new relaxation rooms, and a fitness room equipped with premium Precor machines. In 2019, the newly designed à la carte restaurant Mayr's opened its doors.
The heated outdoor pool was opened in 2020 – offering guests year-round outdoor swimming, both in summer and winter. In 2021, the south wing underwent a core renovation, featuring a new facade and completely renewed Sonnblick rooms. In 2024, it was the north wing's turn – 39 rooms in the Morgensonne and Kreuzboden Deluxe categories were renovated from the ground up, debuting their fresh new look in July 2024.
Since July 2024, the Rauriserhof has proudly held the "S" for Superior alongside its four stars – an accolade that cannot simply be requested, but must be earned. And all of this happened in a milestone anniversary year: 70 years of the Rauriserhof, three generations, and a house that has never stopped striving to become better.
🤝 50 team members make this business what it is every single day. The family knows that none of this would be possible without them – and that is not just a phrase, but a deeply held core value.
