The Rauriserhof

Hiking Hotel in Summer

The Rauriserhof is a 4-star superior hiking hotel in Rauris, right in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park—and the ultimate hiking specialist in the Rauris Valley. Around 295 kilometers of marked trails, over 40 managed alpine huts, and several 3,000-meter peaks begin practically right outside the hotel door. Guests are accompanied by Ina and Christian, the hotel's two certified hiking guides, who guide exclusively and solely for hotel guests.

Guided Tours with Ina and Christian

From Monday to Friday, eight to ten guided hikes per week are available, each with changing theme highlights, featuring one easier and one more challenging tour every day. Once a week, a route leads up to a high-alpine summit.

The knowledge of the two guides extends far beyond just finding the right path:

  • Christian is a certified herbal expert (herbal pedagogue) and leads informative herb hikes.
  • Ina is an experienced trail runner and accompanies active runs for beginners and advanced runners alike.

High-quality hiking poles and backpacks are available to borrow directly from the hotel, and breaks are taken together at the most rustic alpine huts in the valley.

Included: Nationalpark Sommercard and Guest Mobility Card

Upon check-in, guests receive the Nationalpark Sommercard and the Guest Mobility Card. These are valid for your entire stay, including the days of arrival and departure, and are already included in all holiday packages. This allows you to use more than 60 attractions in the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region completely free of charge (one service daily), as well as all public transport in the province of Salzburg.

Included free of charge are, among others:

  • The Rauriser Hochalmbahn cable cars including the bird of prey show
  • The valley taxi into the Seidlwinkl Valley & the toll road to Kolm Saigurn
  • The impressive Kitzlochklamm gorge
  • Authentic gold panning at the Heimalm and the Bodenhaus
  • The "Facettenreich" National Park Center, as well as minigolf and the outdoor pool in Rauris

The Rauriserhof proudly holds the Austrian Eco-Label (Österreichisches Umweltzeichen)—car-free arrival by train and the free mobility ticket fit perfectly with this sustainable commitment.

The Five Valleys of Rauris

Rauris, the "golden valley of the Alps," branches into five unique side valleys—each with its own distinct character and easily accessible from the hotel:

  • The Rauriser Hochalm: Accessible by gondola lift in just a few minutes. Up at the top, the impressive bird of prey show, gold panning on the mountain, and the Tilly educational trail await, which is particularly ideal for families with children.
  • The Gaisbach Valley: Located opposite the Hochalm, it is the perfect destination for panoramic views: scenic summits and high-altitude hikes with quick, straightforward accessibility.
  • The Seidlwinkl Valley: It follows an old packhorse and trade route to the Carinthian border and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Many managed alpine huts lie along the path. With the Sommercard, the valley taxi takes you deep into the valley free of charge, allowing your hike to begin relaxed in the inner valley.
  • The Kruml Valley ("Valley of Vultures"): The stage for the successful reintroduction of the bearded vulture—one of the most successful conservation projects in the Alps. With binoculars and a little patience, you can observe the "Big Five of the Alps" here: bearded vultures (with a wingspan of up to 2.90 meters), golden eagles, alpine ibex, chamois, and marmots. Ina and Christian lead weekly tours into this fascinating valley.
  • The Kolm Saigurn Valley Head: Framed by mighty 3,000-meter peaks, historic ruins recall the days of the old gold miners. Towering above is the Hoher Sonnblick (3,106 m) with its legendary observatory, which has been seamlessly recording weather and climate in the high mountains since 1886.
Hiking Hotel in Winter

In winter too, Ina and Christian lead tours through the valley from Monday to Friday—away from the ski slopes, where the powder snow crunches and the alpine mountain world comes to rest.

The winter hiking program includes:

  • Guided snowshoe hikes (snowshoes, gaiters, and poles available for rent)
  • A weekly evening torchlit hike with hot mulled wine
  • Tobogganing on the natural toboggan run in Kolm Saigurn & taster cross-country skiing

Particularly practical for mixed families: While one part of the family is out on the ski slopes, the other part enjoys the deeply snow-covered winter landscape on a hike.

After the Tour: BergSpa and Culinary Delights

An eventful day of hiking at the Rauriserhof always ends with deep relaxation. After the tour, the wellness area awaits with a spacious indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool. In the evening, our kitchen serves up regional, freshly prepared specialties of Salzburg cuisine as part of our gourmet half-board package (Verwöhnpension)—the perfect end to a day in the mountains.
